Let's suppose for a moment, that you are at that historical point in time with Bert and Neva Lowry back 100 years ago, and could either move forward in time and meet their descendants, or starting with this page, you could choose to step back in time and learn about their ancestors.  In researching their ancestors, we have found the following surnames:

Genealogy is the documenting of the family tree.  It often starts with conversations with other family members and eventually moves into visits to county courthouses, cemeteries and libraries.  Reading over old letters and examining the vital statistics in the family Bible also take place.  Some families have kept newspaper clippings of birth and wedding announcements and also obituaries.  Many family traditions and stories are spoken along the way too.

The serious genealogist takes all of this information and searches out authenticating evidence of fact.  Birth, marriage and death certificates are included in this list.  So are census records and other records kept by the government such as pensioner's records.  This authentication is an important step in creating the family tree.  Without authentication, we would just have stories that may or may not be true.  It is our goal to only display authenticated information regarding our ancestors in the pages that follow.

Lest we forget with all of this data, these were real people.  They had families and most likely struggled with the difficulties of life.  They had joy and pain, just like all of us today.

Specific information we are currently researching includes:

1. Information about James LOWRY (28 Nov. 1771 - 04 Oct. 1849).  While he settled in the area around Athens, McMinn County, Tennessee, we do not know where he was born.  We do not know anything about his parents or any siblings.  It is believed that he moved southward into Tennessee from Pennsylvania or Virginia via The Great Wagon Road in the Shenandoah Valley.
