How to use the Relationship Chart

While many of us call each other cousins, there is more to it than that.  To find the relationship between any two individuals who have a Common Ancestor, follow these instructions.  Assume that "Person A" is the Great3 Grandchild of the Common Ancestor.  Place "A" in the Great3 Grandchild box of the Horizontal Scale (blue) along the top of the chart.  If "Person B" is also a Great3 Grandchild of that same Common Ancestor, you would place "B" in the Great3 Grandchild box of the Vertical Scale (yellow) along the left hand side of the chart.  Follow the "A" column down and follow the "B" row across to their intersection, and you will find that they are Fourth Cousins to each other.

Note, when selecting the Common Ancestor, don't go back any further than you need to.

Select the closest ancestor that the two of you have in common.
